Our two-day Uyuni Salt Flats tour will offer an adventure across one of South America’s most surreal landscapes. We will start and finish our journey in Uyuni, ensuring a comprehensive experience of this unique region.

On the first day, we will visit Colchani village, just near the edges of the expansive salt flats. Here, we will witness local artisans crafting salt-based products, a glimpse into the cultural heritage of the area. We will then continue our tour to the majestic Thunupa Volcano. This is where we will explore Coqueza village and visit mysterious caves with fascinating archaeological remains.

In the afternoon, we will hike uphill to the base of Thunupa. This provides us breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Our day will end with an unforgettable sunset over the vast white expanse of the Bolivian salt flats.

We will have a visit to the Train Cemetery, where rusting locomotives tell the story of a bygone era. We will then venture to Incahuasi Island, a remarkable oasis of cacti amidst the salt flats. This spot will offer us the chance to take amazing photos of the salt flats from a unique perspective.

Afterward, we will continue our tour, marveling at the stark beauty of the region. Then we will return to Uyuni in the evening, concluding our Uyuni tour.

Itinerary

Day 1Colchani – Thunupa Volcano – Salt Flats

The Uyuni Salt Flats Bolivia tour starts at 9:30 a.m. Our first stop is Colchani village, near the shores of the salt flats. Here, you’ll witness the local artisans at work, mining and processing salt in their traditional manner.

Next, we head north towards the Thunupa volcano. We will pass through the Coqueza village at its base that proudly preserves its ancient heritage. Explore mysterious caves with surprising archaeological remains and hike uphill to the volcano base. Also, we will be rewarded with higher panoramic views of the white desert below.

Later on, enjoy a special lunch served in the heart of the salt flats. Then, get ready for some fun as we experiment with perspective photography. Capture creative shots at the vast salt flats backdrop.

As the sun goes down, we journey eastward to find the perfect spot for sunset viewing. Drop off at hotel around 6:30 pm.

Day 2Train Cemetery - Uyuni Salt Flats – Lunch – Incahuasi Island – Hotel/Uyuni/Airport

The second day of the Uyuni Salt Flats Bolivia Tour begins at 9:30 AM with the drive to the Train Cemetery. We’ll talk about Bolivia’s history and mineral heritage during the XIX century as you encounter the “Train Cemetery.”

This place was once bustling with silver mining activity, now rest silently amidst the vast expanse of the desert. Explore these haunting remnants, each telling a story of Bolivia’s industrial past and the resilience of its people.

Step onto the vast expanse of the salt flats, marveling at the endless white horizon and its mirror effect. Have fun taking perspective pictures with the help of our tour guide!

Also, during the Uyuni Salt Flats Bolivia Tour you will explore the Incahuasi Island with a 40 minute hike. Visit the first museum of salt in the world and the colorful world-countries flags. They represent countries from around the globe, adding a colorful touch to this otherworldly adventure.
