On our 2-day Sajama National Park Bolivia tour, we will start by visiting the ancient Aymara funerary towers. These towering structures, rich in history, showcase the deep cultural roots of the Aymara people.

We will then enter Sajama National Park, which includes a diverse ecosystem. This ecosystem is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List. The park is home to Nevado Sajama, the highest mountain in Bolivia, standing at 6,542 meters (21,463 feet).

After exploring the park, we will venture into the unique forest of queñua trees, known to be the world’s highest forest. These resilient trees grow at altitudes of up to 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). Our day will conclude with a visit to the mesmerizing geysers, with the earth’s geothermal activity up close.

Also, we will start by soaking in the soothing thermal springs, a perfect way to relax in this high-altitude environment. Afterward, we will head towards the base of the imposing Sajama volcano, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. We will then return towards La Paz, but not before stopping at the Sajama Sistine Chapel, a hidden gem with stunning frescoes.

Itinerary

Day 1

Early morning pick up from your La Paz hotel and begin your journey towards the Sajama National Park Bolivia. Stop at the fascinating Aymara Funerary Towers, and learn about their cultural significance.

We will arrive at Sajama National Park Bolivia around noon. Once there, we will enjoy a delicious and authentic Bolivian lunch prepared by your hosts.

In the afternoon we will visit the forest forests of Queñua (Polylepis tarapacana). We will explore the geysers, witnessing their geothermal wonders. We will walk around the Queñua forest, one of the highest forests in the world. Around 7 pm we will enjoy a home-cooked dinner at your lodge.

Day 2

We will enjoy a breakfast and relax at the warmth of the natural hot springs with the best view of the Sajama Volcano. This site has the breathtaking scenery of the Altiplano surrounding it. You will have a traditional lunch and prepare your return to La Paz in the afternoon.

On your way back, visit the vibrant murals and colonial architecture of the stunning “Sajama Sistine Chapel”. Is in the village of Curahuara de Carangas. Arrival to your hotel around 7:00 pm, ending with our Sajama National Park Bolivia.
