Experience one of the most extraordinary adventures in the Bolivian Andes. Enjoy our exclusive 3-day Salar de Uyuni Bolivia Tour. Journey through the remote southern Altiplano in a private 4WD vehicle, guided by our experienced tour leader.
Traverse rugged dirt roads amidst towering volcanoes, vast deserts, and stunning lagoons teeming with flamingos. All of these sites are at elevations over 4000 meters. This tour promises breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable memories.
There is also the option to reduce the cost by traveling with a Spanish speaking driver only. They can give brief explanations in Spanish at each site, but they are not qualified guides.
This is a 4WD adventure, you will spend 60% inside the car with lights hikes, (90 to 120 minutes approx.)
The Salar de Uyuni Bolivia Tour’s accommodation has the option for the second night to be upgraded. It can be the Tayka community-based hotel “Ojo de Perdiz”. It modifies the driving route without missing the most important sites.
From January to April, the Central Andes experience a weather phenomenon known as the Altiplano winter, which brings the rainy season. Due to this, the itinerary may be subject to changes, and we might not visit Incahuasi Island, as it is situated in the center of the salt flat, where water accumulates the most during this period.
If you wish to transfer to San Pedro de Atacama in Chile, you can do so for an additional cost of $15 USD.
Did you know that stromatolites, ancient rock formations created by microbes, still exist today in places like Shark Bay, Australia? These living fossils offer a glimpse into early Earth conditions. At Incahuasi Island in Uyuni, you can see fossilized stromatolites, linking you directly to our planet’s distant past!
We will spend most of the first day exploring the fascinating salt flats. Start at 9:30 a.m. with your first stop at Colchani village. Here you’ll witness local artisans mining and processing salt in the traditional manner.
Then, explore the Uyuni Salt Flats, visit the unique first hotel made entirely of salt. After the salt hotels, hike the picturesque Incahuasi Island. Capture fun perspective photos and enjoy the stunning surroundings until late afternoon.
In the evening, you’ll drive for two hours to the charming village of Agencha for an overnight stay.
After an early breakfast, start your second day of the Salar de Uyuni Bolivia Tour along the Chiguana Desert. Here you can see a former railway from the 19th century crossing the salty surface.
Marvel at the volcanic landscape as you head to Canapa Lagoon, Hedionda Lagoon, and Chiarcota Lagoon. Here we can practice some birdwatching with wild flamingos at 3800 meters above sea level.
After lunch, we’ll get to the Pampas del Siloli, the Stone Tree and the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve. Here we will witness the unique spectacle of three types of flamingos at the Red Lagoon. You will spend the evening at a hostel in Huayllajara village.
Accommodation: Lodge with a private room and bathroom.
We will start with an early breakfast and visit the Sol de Mañana geysers. We’ll reach the highest point of the trip at 5000 meters above sea level. Witness the colorful geothermal activity in the middle of the desert.
Later, relax and recharge at the Polquez Hotsprings with natural water at 35 degrees. Stop at the Dali Desert for some photos. Then, we will continue driving south to the Chilean border to see the Licancabur volcano and the Green Lagoon.
Around noon, enjoy lunch before making your way back to Uyuni. We will stop at some natural spots like the Valley of Rocks, Catal, and San Cristobal village. Then we will finally arrive in Uyuni at approximately 6:30 p.m. This is the end of the Salar de Uyuni Bolivia Tour.
It’s important to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun. The remote areas have limited medical facilities, so bring a basic first aid kit. Be mindful of the high altitude and cold temperatures, especially at night.
Tours can be booked online through various travel agencies or in person in Uyuni. It’s recommended to book in advance, especially during the peak season.
